Dr. Ben Joffe
Dr Ben Joffe is a scholar-practitioner of Tibetan Buddhist and Western esoteric traditions. He received his doctorate in cultural anthropology from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2019, based on his dissertation fieldwork on ngakpa and ngakma - non-monastic, non-celibate Tibetan Buddhist tantric ritual specialists. He is the head editor and translator at Sky Press Books and helps develop and teach courses at Sowa Rigpa Institute. With his familiarity with Tibetan language as well as the broader socio-cultural, historical and political contexts of Tibetan Buddhist practices he is able to craft rigorous yet user-friendly translations for both academics and practitioners. Ben has more than fourteen years of experience instructing and mentoring students at the tertiary level - he has designed and taught university-level courses in Anthropology and Tibetan Studies and has written and edited several successful research proposals. He has also worked as a Tarot card reader and provided various other divinatory services for clients for the last twenty four years. His personal research blog can be found at www.perfumedskull.com.
