TRADITION & lINEAGE

The practices of Sowa Rigpa and Yuthok Nyingthig taught at Pure Land Farms trace their lineage to the Medicine Buddha through Yuthok Yönten Gönpo the Elder (729-854 AD) and the Younger (1126-1202).

Yuthok Yönten Gönpo the Younger

Known as the father of Sowa Rigpa, Yuthok Yonten Gonpo, was a 12th century Tibetan physician and meditation adept who is considered to be an emanation of the Medicine Buddha.

Yuthok’s two textual corpuses known as his‘two heart jewels’ are the Gyuzhi (Four Tantras) containing the complete medical theory of Sowa Rigpa, and the Yuthok Nyingthig (‘Heart Essence of Yuthok’), the collection of Vajrayana Buddhist spiritual practices written down by his heart son Sumton Yeshe Zung for the benefit of future generations.

In the non-sectarian spirit of Yuthok, we welcome practitioners and teachers of diverse lineages. Here we would like to honor the precious teachers who personally trained Dr. Nida Chenagtsang in Tibet, allowing him to spread the medical and spiritual teachings of Yuthok internationally.
