An introduction to the fundamental theory and practice behind Sowa Rigpa, Traditional Tibetan Medicine with visiting guest teacher and Tibetan Medical practitioner, Erik Jampa Andersson!
Sowa Rigpa, ‘The Science of Healing,’ is the ancient medical tradition of Tibet. This transcontinental tradition incorporated knowledge from many of the great medical disciplines of the ancient world, including the Indian, Persian, Greek, Chinese, and indigenous Himalayan healing traditions. For over 2,000 years, these seemingly disparate lineages coalesced in the Land of Snows and advanced investigation into the nature of health and disease became a major undertaking for the Tibetan people. With a guiding focus on empiricism and the elimination of suffering, the Tibetan lineage of Sowa Rigpa has evolved into one of the most sophisticated and effective examples of traditional healing science in the world today.
The special focus of this workshop is the study of diet and lifestyle according to the Explanatory Tantra, from Tibetan Medicine's root text, the Four Tantras (Tib. རྒྱུད་བཞི་ “gyüd zhi”). Participants will learn how to identify humoral patterns in one's constitution, diet, activities, and mental states, and be given practical techniques that can be easily implemented for balancing body, energy, and mind through food and lifestyle choices according to one's constitutional typology.
This is an excellent course for the layman who is seeking to introduce traditional nutritional and behavioral principles into one's life and home, as well as for the medical practitioner who is looking for a greater set of tools to benefit their patients.
