The Six Bardos:
Teachings and Guided Meditation Practice with Professor Robert Thurman and Dr. Nida Chenagtsang.
The Six Bardos (བར་དོ་དྲུག་) refer to the transitional states of:
The Natural Bardo of this Life
The Painful Bardo of Dying
The Luminous Bardo of Dharmata
The Karmic Bardo of Becoming
the Bardo of Meditation
The Bardo of Dreaming
This is an extremely rare opportunity to study these ‘in-between’ states with two experts (and great friends!) in the field of Sowa Rigpa (the Healing Science, Tibetan Medicine) and Nangdön Rigpa (the Inner Science, Buddhism). A special emphasis will be placed on how to understand and work with these states from the perspective of the Yuthok Nyingthig cycle of Vajrayana Buddhist teachings. Theoretical explanations will be supplemented with practical meditation guidance.

About our Teachers:
Hailed by the New York Times as the leading American expert on Tibetan Buddhism, Robert Thurman is a professor of Indo-Tibetan Buddhist Studies in the Department of Religion at Columbia University. He is President of Tibet House US, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation and promotion of Tibetan civilization, and President the American Institute of Buddhist Studies, which is dedicated to the translation of the Tengyur, an important part of the Tibetan canon.
The first American to have been ordained as a Tibetan Buddhist monk and a personal friend of His Holiness the Dalai Lama for nearly 50 years, Professor Thurman is a dedicated advocate and spokesperson for Tibet. Professor Thurman also translates important Tibetan and Sanskrit philosophical writings, and lectures and writes on Buddhism, particularly Tibetan Buddhism; Asian history, particularly the history of the monastic institution in Asian civilization; and critical philosophy, with a focus on the dialogue between the material and inner sciences of the world’s religious traditions.
Dr. Nida Chenagtsang was born in Amdo, North Eastern Tibet and trained in Sowa Rigpa (Traditional Tibetan Medicine) at the Lhasa Tibetan Medical University. Alongside his medical education, he has trained in Vajrayana with teachers from every school of Tibetan Buddhism and is a lineage holder of the Yuthok Nyingthig, the unique spiritual tradition of Tibetan Medicine. He has published several books and articles on Tibetan yoga and medicine and his extensive research and revival of ancient Tibetan healing methods has earned him great acclaim in both East and West. Dr. Nida is the Co-Founder and Medical Director of Sorig Khang International and Co-Founder of the International Ngakmang Institute, established to preserve and maintain the Rebkong ngakpa non-monastic yogi/ini culture within modern Tibetan society. In addition to his work as a physician, he trains students in Sowa Rigpa and the Yuthok Nyingthig tradition in over forty countries around the world.
