Lujong Yoga Immersion

A Retreat with Dr. Nida Chenagtsang & Liz Sung
October 27 - 31 2026

IN PERSON + LIVESTREAM

This retreat is only open to students enrolled in SRI’s full three month Lujong Yoga Immersion

Lüjong Yoga

Lüjong (Tibetan: ལུས་སྦྱོང་), meaning “body training,” is a traditional Tibetan yogic practice that integrates dynamic movement, breath, and awareness to strengthen the body, balance the subtle energies, and cultivate clarity of mind.

Rooted in the teachings of the 14th-century Dzogchen master Longchenpa, this specific Lüjong system explores the profound relationship between training the body and training the mind. Through dynamic and meditative exercises, the practice works to release physical and energetic obstacles, develop strength and vitality, and prepare the practitioner for deeper states of meditation and open awareness.

Taught publicly for the first time by Dr. Nida Chenagtsang in 2024, this presentation of Longchenpa’s Lüjong integrates the principles of Sowa Rigpa to promote optimal physical and mental well-being. A natural progression from the gentle therapeutic practices of Nejang, Lüjong offers a more dynamic approach to working with the body as a vehicle for healing, transformation, and contemplative realization.

FACULTY

Dr. Nida Chenagtsang

Born in Amdo, in Northeastern Tibet, Dr. Nida began his early studies of Sowa Rigpa at the local Tibetan medical hospital. Later, he was awarded a scholarship to enter the Lhasa Mentseekhang or Tibetan Medical University, where he completed his degree in 1996, with practical training at the Tibetan Medicine hospitals in Lhasa and Lhoka.

Alongside his medical education, Dr. Nida trained in Vajrayana with teachers from every school of Tibetan Buddhism. In particular, he trained in the Longchen Nyingthig tradition of the Nyingma school with his root guru Ani Ngawang Gyaltsen and in the Dudjom Tersar tradition with Chönyi Rinpoche and Semo Dechen Yudrön. He received complete instruction in the Yuthok Nyingthig lineage, the unique spiritual tradition of Tibetan Medicine, from his teachers Khenpo Tsultrim Gyaltsen and Khenchen Troru Tsenam, and was requested to continue the Yuthok Nyingthig lineage by Jamyang Rinpoche of the Rebkong ngakpa and ngakma community.

A well-known poet in his youth, Dr. Nida later published many articles and books on Sowa Rigpa and the Yuthok Nyingthig tradition in Tibetan and English, which have been translated into several languages. He has extensively researched ancient Tibetan healing methods, and has gained acclaim in East and West for his revival of little-known Tibetan external therapies.

Liz Sung

Liz Sung is a Yuthok Nyingthig practitioner under the guidance of her main teacher, Dr. Nida Chenagtsang, with whom she also studied Tibetan Yoga and Sowa Rigpa. Influenced by her Korean heritage and Mahayana Buddhist roots, she began her dharma path in the Gelug tradition before entering the Yuthok lineage.

As Yoga Director for the Sowa Rigpa Institute, Liz develops the institute’s Sowa Rigpa Yoga curriculum and programs, weaving together Tibetan medicine principles with Tibetan yogic systems. She is a certified Sowa Rigpa Practitioner as well as a certified teacher of Hatha yoga, trauma-informed yoga, and meditation. With a decade of embodied movement training, she focuses on alignment, structural integrity, and functional strength. Raised in a family of artists and entrepreneurs, Liz strives to bring creativity, discipline, and thoughtful integration to support students in building a stable foundation for long-term practice.

In addition to teaching internationally, Liz is the founder of SAMAYA, a Los Angeles–based meditation lifestyle brand that blends ancient wisdom with contemporary living. She also co-creates Tanaduk Garden, an initiative with Dr. Nida devoted to preserving and sharing the rich herbal wisdom of Tibetan Medicine.
