Mandala of Healing:
The Art of Medicine Buddha's Botanic Garden
A Contemplative Drawing Workshop with Lobsang Tsering Phartsang
Sunday May 24th, 2026, 11am - 5pm
IN PERSON ONLY
In Tibetan medical tradition, Tanaduk—meaning "beautiful to behold"—is the Pure Land and botanic garden of Medicine Buddha, a luminous realm where plants, herbs, and minerals carry the power to heal. More than a sacred image, Tanaduk is a living map of Sowa Rigpa's understanding of nature, constitution, and the relationship between the human body and the natural world. Rooted in Tibetan Buddhist principles but beyond religious and cultural boundaries, Tanaduk is a realm that can be accessed at any moment in any place.
This full-day workshop uses art as a gateway into that world. Participants will explore the garden at Pure Land Farms, discovering herbs and medicinal plants through the lens of Sowa Rigpa and their own constitutional type. Those new to the tradition will receive an accessible introduction to the three constitutional principles—Lung, Tripa, and Béken—and how the five elements manifest in both plants and people.
Drawing on these discoveries, participants will learn Medicine Buddha mandala design from its geometric foundations—understanding the underlying structure, proportions, and sacred geometry that govern the form. In order to demonstrate the sacred architecture that underlies the two-dimensional form, Lobsang will construct a three-dimensional mandala as a visual tool. Participants will have the opportunity to personalize their own Tanaduk drawing with the healing plants of their constitution.
No prior art experience is required.
The day includes a shared vegetarian lunch. All art supplies are included.
Part of the Medicine Buddha Healing Weekend at Pure Land Farms—a series of events with special guest Lobsang Tsering bringing together Tibetan healing, meditation, and contemplative art in the spirit of Sangye Menla.
Optional Saturday overnight stay at Pure Land Farms for participants in the full weekend offerings.
